hi again...

i remember in a prior post that someone said you can not bring a subreport into a main report if the one you want to use as the subreport has subreports of its own... (anyone dizzy yet)...

because of that i am figuring my only other option if i want to be able to run both of the reports as one is to section by section combine the reports. they both use the same criteria to pull data, so i dont forsee that as a problem; i am just wondering if there is a limit to how many subreports there can be within one main report...

i just dont want to go through all the work only to find out it wasnt going to work anyway...

thanks... ShannonLea

I have a report with 15 subreports and it runs fine (version 8.5).

Too many would be when Crystal unceremoniously closes ;)

when the ones in the monitor see happiness on our faces they radio the other ones to shut something down on us lol...

i do not think it is possible in this particular situation...

this is the basic grouping of the one report:

group header 1
group header 2
group header 3
group header 4 (information in group 4 based on case #)
group 4 sub header 1
group 4 sub header 2
group 4 sub header 3
group 4 sub header 4
group 4 sub header 5
group 4 sub header 6
group 4 sub header 7
group 4 sub header 8
group 4 sub header 9
group 4 sub header 10
group header 5 (information in group 5 based on DPC#)
group 5 sub header 1
group 5 sub header 2
group 5 sub header 3
group 5 sub header 4
group 5 sub header 5
group 5 sub header 6
group 5 sub header 7
group 5 sub header 8
details
(subsequent footers)

group 4 "feeds" group 5 because without information located within each case# you would not know which DPC# you need...

the second report is setup basically the same way:

group header 1
group header 2
group header 3
group header 4 (information in group 4 based on case #)
group 4 sub header 1
group 4 sub header 2
group 4 sub header 3
group 4 sub header 4
group 4 sub header 5
group 4 sub header 6
group 4 sub header 7
group 4 sub header 8
group 4 sub header 9
group 4 sub header 10
group 4 sub header 11
group header 5 (information in group 5 based on DPC#)
group 5 sub header 1
group 5 sub header 2
group 5 sub header 3
group 5 sub header 4
group 5 sub header 5
group 5 sub header 6
group 5 sub header 7
group 5 sub header 8
details
(subsequent footers)

yes - these reports practically duplicate each other as far as content; but there are VERY important formatting differences involved.

the selection criteria is exaclty the same... which was why, at first, i thought it would not be a big deal to merge them; however... because of the way group 4 feeds group 5 in both i do not think it is possible after all as while i want the reports to merge for the ease of running them, they need to print out with the second one having its own report/page headers and footers... etc...

i do apologize if i wasted yalls time with this one... i just always assume that i dont know enough - that someone out there will no a way to do things that i think are impossible...

thanks for all your suggestions... i will keep trying to think of some way to make the people who have to run them happy because the havoc that would be caused on the other end if there was only one format is much more chaotic than i want to imgaine...

thanks again... i'll stop babbling now
