Just a question that's been lingering over my head for awhile now. That question is on W2K3 server, what is the suggested amount of roles that's to one server?

Thanks,

I suggest one role per server. But, you may not have the funding to do that. So, take a baseline and if your CPU or MEMORY usage is unacceptable then plan to add another server to take some of the load.

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

cool man! thanks for your advice. to tell you the truth, i just have three computers and i'm wanting to network all of them together having a DC and DNS setup on one older PC, and having a file, printer, and DHCP server on a Pentium 4 3Ghz pentium processor. do you think that would be acceptable? i just have a bunch of MP3s i want to be able to share on the P4 3Ghz.

thanks for the advice and any further advice is welcome. thanks!

Multiple servers for the scenario you describe above is overkill. One machine is enough.

I would suggest keeping the network services running on the DC (DNS & DHCP). That's what it's for, really. As far as your other requirements...yes, setting up a file and print server is ideal.

Obviously, there will not be much overhead on this DC...so, again, no problems designating that as the netowork services provider. I know of a particular environment that serves up over 300 clients (yes, 300), and the DC with all the fixin's (AD/DNS/DHCP) was all running on an Optiplex GX280. Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!
