How Exchange 2k3 "Optimizes" 1

I was told that I can easily change the directory of the Exhcange database by simply changing the patition letter from which it stands. Ie: C:\exsrv\database .... to.. E:\etc, etc.
Is this true?

I go to the Mailbox Store in the storage grp and right click. Then click on the "Database" Tab. The change the Exchange Database and Exchange Streaming Datbase to the new drive.

Mine is currently set to
C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb
and
C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.stm

All I'm told to do is change the C:\ to E:\...... and away I go. Sounds too good to be true.

Yes, this is relatively a simple procedure. But, good to approach with some degree of skepticism. You don't want to do this during production hours. Perform your due diligence and backup the server before starting. The new database target ideally should be double the size or larger of the priv1.edb.

You can just change the drive letters from let's say "c:\..." to "d:\...". I prefer to create the folder structure in explorer then select the new destination using the browse button in Exchange System Manager. Just need to remember to set the folder permissions.
