With all those certs you list, you don't know how the licencing works, how to search the MS knowledgebase, or how to call MS for info. Give me a break!

Admin mode you get 2 freebies. If you want users to use it, you have to pay for them. Admin mode is default. You can change it for users, but once you do, you can't go back to admin mode so be careful. Rbertram, MS licensing is extremely complicated and changing on a daily basis. No kidding!!!!!

You can use Terminal services for Free, ONLY for Remote Admin to the servers ONLY. I.E. your workstation to administrate to the servers only. Otherwise get some licenses for any other stuff…

At least in Windows 2000 Adv. Server.

I'm running 3 plain windows servers and it's the same here. Even with the licenses, it's still only good to access the server. Check into

which is a free download. I have it on abour 250 pc's, so if a user calls me with a problem, I can fix it from here. I also go through a vpn from home, and can use tightvnc to run pc's from there. (Don't use the original vnc, tightvnc is much better.) Glen A. Johnson

There are a few ways to activate the license, by phone, internet, fax. But first, you need to have some sort of open license and/or authorization number. ie. extra licenses for your workstation. If you are running in W2K native mode then you do not need any lincese as it is included.

goto Start\program\admin tools\terminal service license.
click on server in the detail pane and follow the setup wizard. The easiest way that I have done was by telephone and if you are not sure of anything the tech support can help you there.

Thank to GlenJohnson and any other people.
Microsoft License is so complicated. I know the terminal service under windows 2000 have two mode, for admin mode,it is free, for applcation server mode, we have to active license. but I don't know how the license server assign licese to workstaion. I search microsoft's website, and I know some of it.
Terminal services is perseat license mode. so every one access server through terminal server has to have license.

Our customer have one Windows 2000 server which we have already installed Terminal services and active it as application mode, and also bought 5 license for them.
When windows 2000 professional workstation connect to terminal services, it will get permanent license, but windows 9x will get temp license before we active license, and after we active license, it is changed to permanent license but it still has expire day for license, so what will happen after expired day?
