how do you use port forwarding, port triggering, upnp forwarding??

i'm a techsupport and when i advice my clients to use port forwarding, port triggering and upnp forwarding, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. How do i configure this correctly?? how different are they from each other?? thanks.

port forwarding is opening out the specified ports for the computer with the specified ip address...
port triggering on the other hard opens the ports to all the computers on the network or you might say open the specified ports on the router..
upnp forwarding is an automatic forwarding option that is basically used if your OS supports upnp..

also DMZ means opening all the ports that are naturally blocked by the firewall of the router for the specified ip...

do they always have to work or are there special cases wherein they won't. Because in my case, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. On what cases do I use them??? Can I combine them to be more effective??

I have DSL and i have a linksys router. I have a webserver with static ip. DSL gives a WAN ip. Locally in my network if i put

http://<wan

ip> my webserver works but from outside they are not able to access my web server. port 80 is open. However verizon tech support told me that my given wan ip is blocked for port 80. he suggested me to change to another port so that when the router receives data in port 80 the router should be able to switch to another port which is not blocked giving access to my web server from outsiders. if you know how to configure the router for this specifis issue please let me know

Forward another port. 8080 is also commonly used, and should not be blocked.

You would access the site by typing http:\\wan.ip:8080, or you might consider using a DDNS service. Google for the alternatives of DDNS services.
