Hi,

I know how to install new printers onto a w2k file and print server but how do you swap out a hp laserjet 5 that is configured with a static ip address with a newer printer? Do you delete everything and start from the beginning? Please advice is very welcome, I am new to W2K environment.

Thanking you in advance.

Please explain with a little more detail. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish?

Are you saying that you have a Windows 2000 Server that acts as a print server....and you want to replace an old HP laserjet with a new printer?

Or are you saying that you want to upgrade a Windows NT 4.0 print server to 2K?

Just not sure exactly what you want to accomplish.. Joseph L. Poandl

I have a w2k file and print server with older hp laserjet printers. The w2k server is already installed; I just want to know if I have options when replaceing older printers with new ones without having to delete everything for the old printer. I will reuse the same name,ip address and other info but on the newer printer.

Thanks

Still, you description is a little confusing. You should use words like, PHYSICAL PRINTER, PRINT QUEUE, and PRINT SERVER.

"I have a w2k file and print server with older hp laserjet rinters." OK. The 2K print server has one or more HP LASERJET PRINT QUEUES setup. These QUEUES print to older HP PYSICAL PRINTERS.

Now, do you want to remove the PHYSICAL PRINTERS and add new PHYSICAL PRINTERS?

If this is the case, all's you have to do is add new drivers on each PRINT QUEUE. Look at the properties of the print queue and select the ADVANCED tab. From here, you will see the DRIVERS tab. Just add the appropriate driver for the new printer. You may also, want to look at the SHARING TAB to add additional drivers here too.

-hope this helps.
