If all you have is Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro operating systems how do you make a DOS boot disk?
I need to boot to DOS to flash the BIOS on a computer.

I know Windows '9x had the ability to add Command files or Format the disk with System files.

HELP!!!

TIA DougP, MCP

Much the same in XP. Use the format floppy selection but check the create MS-DOS Start Up Disk option instead of formatting.

Linney, you're quite right, although that would only work for the GUI applet; ofcourse, most people wouldn't mind and/or notice anyway..

Just remember that the XP bootdisk is a more or less stripped W9x disk, with no NTFS support... a lot of people tend to download things to their harddisk (C:\Download springs to mind), and if that's a NTFS disk..

Just use the free, read-only version of SysInternals NTFSdos..

That should work ok...

Just a comment regarding checking the MS-DOS box in floppy format. I tried this and then tested it. I was not able to perform FDISK or access other DOS commands, I got an unrecognized command error! I currently use a leftover Win '98 DOS startup floppy to perform some DOS utilities.

The reason you're not able to perform fdisk is that xp or 2000 or nt are not able to create this command. Being built on nt technology and not dos make these os's not capable.
