How do you include the .Net Redistribution Pack? I try to include the dotnetfxredist_x86_enu.msm, but when I build I get this message:

dotNETFXRedist_x86_enu.msm must not be used to redistribute the .NET Framework. Please exclude this merge module.

Am I missing something?

Thanks! --------------------------------------

Hey there bud. You aren't missing anything. It took me a very long time before I figured this out. Once I did I wrote an FAQ for it. Check it out at

Thanks Mark,

The bootstrapper from Microsoft worked, but had two problems that I noted.

1. It wouldn't allow your .msi to have spaces in the name.
2. It wouldn't allow for auto uninstall for reinstallation.

Thanks again. --------------------------------------

You Welcome.

I actually went with the second option of just running the framework install from my setup. That'l do donkey, that'l do

I tried the Boot Strapper from Microsoft. It installed the .Net Framework and would run the .msi file only to error shortly after starting. The MSI file could be run fine just on it's own.
How do you make the normal .net setup run dotnetfx or mdac_typ for instance?

read the FAQ and use the second option "install from setup" That'l do donkey, that'l do

Tried your option of install from setup. Don't work because you can only have one MSI install running at one time.

Hmm interesting.

I used Wise installer to make my setup.exe program and installed then ran my msi files from there. Personally I found Wise to be very clumsy I didn't like it much but thats what we have at work so thats what I used.

Anyway, you need to make something that will run the other setups, whether you use an install program or just build something. That'l do donkey, that'l do
