I've been trying to use various command line commands to assess the utilization of the tape library within a NetBackup Storage Domain. The Storage Domain consists of a Solaris Master/Media Server running NBU Ent 5.1 MP3a with 20 LTO-II drives, and an additional 4 SSO drives shared between 5 UNIX SAN Media Servers. For a while I was able to make use of the nbardbex within NBAR, but have a made a couple of disturbing discoveries, the worst being the start time is the scheduled start time (there does not appear to be a means to discover actual start time). I have tried the script for bpdbjobs -all_columns using the pointer from an earlier post to no avail. The PERL script using the dumper module gives all the information I could ever waant and then some. If I could only figure out how to build a MySQL DB and populate it.

Are there other commercial, shareware, freeware tools out there folks use to gather information about the utilaization of their tape libraries, DSSUs, and VTLs?

There's software out there, but it cost money.

Check out-

tek tools backup profiler $7-20k
Aptare backup reporting software $20-30k

VERITAS Software - Command Central Services

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.
