Hi All,

Is there any way to do a screen capture to a graphics file in CDE on Solaris 8? I'm hoping for something similar to PrntScrn (whole screen) or Alt-PrntScrn (only active window) in Windows.

Any help would be appreciated (I've got a pocket full of purple stars to hand out [bigsmile]).

Far away from my workstation (and the man pages) I remember the xwd and the snapshot + imagetool, all should be located in /usr/openwin/bin. Look at the man pages (/usr/openwin/man), I don't remember what file format you get from the tools.

Open up workspace manager, click on applications, you will find snapshot as huebs mentioned. Take you 2 minutes to figure it out, just make sure you click on the box to hide the snapshot window as it will overlay what you want to capture.

thanks ca

Thanks for the responses guys, but this machine does not have any of the Openwindow software. It's a CDE only machine.

I've looked for the Openwin tool but couldn't find it. I don't think it will work if I just copy it from another machine because the CDE window manager is very different from Openwindows (Motif?).

I have an idea involving a PC and Reflections/X, but I'd prefer to find a Solaris only solution.

snapshot is available in CDE or am I misunderstanding you.

run
/usr/dt/bin/sdtimage -snapshot

huebs and cndcadams, thanks for the reply, but this machine does not have Openwindows installed. It's a CDE machine only. The [tt]/usr/openwin/bin[/tt] directory doesn't even exist.

daFranze! Thanks! That's it, worked like a charm!

Snapshot is available on CDE also, all you have to do is right click on your desktop, this will bring up the Workspace Menu, go to Applications and under Applications you will see Snapshot.

the CDE Workspace menue starts sdtimage as posted above...

Thank you Sam for the star!

Best Regards, Franz
