Hello

I have read that you can create RAID 1+0 volumes /metadevices using Sun Volume Manger ( solstice disksuite).

Does anyone know how to create a RAID 10 volume/metadivce using Sun volume manager?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is, but that reminds me of something... The instructions for creating a RAID-1 mirror involved making two one-disk RAID-0 metadevices and then mirroring them. My guess is that you could make multi-drive RAID-0 stripes and then mirror those. However that would give RAID 0+1, as opposed to 1+0. In any case, Google is usually helpful for figuring this stuff out, and Google Groups (usenet search) can be even more helpful.

hello

I tried using goolge but could not find anything useful.
Yes I can create RAID 0+1.

thanks.

hello

I saw page 89, yes it talks about RAID 1+0 and how SVM can use such volumes.

But where are the steps to create these volumes???

Thanks

This is from a search on google and the sunmanagers.org site.

Article from June 2002.

Thanks for all the help everyone. When disksuite is set up in what appears
to be raid 0+1 (mirrored stripes) it actually acts like raid 1+0. For
example if you were to set up:

metainit -f d11 1 3 c1t0d0s3 c1t1d0s3 c1t2d0s3
metainit -f d12 1 3 c1t3d0s3 c1t4d0s3 c1t5d0s3
newfs /dev/md/rdsk/d11
metainit d10 -m d11
metattach d10 d12

You will have 2 3 disk stripes which are mirrored. You could lose 3 disks
and still be up because it is really raid 1+0. As long as you don't lose
any of the pairs of disks (like c1t0d0s3 and c1t3d0s3) you're fine.

cool

I'll try that!

thanks

yes, comtech17's post is the solution; there is no RAID0+1 (Striped volume with mirrored subdisks; Veritas calls this "Striped Pro") in SDS
