Windows98 had a utility you could deselect programs from starting on boot up, but I can't seem to do the same in windows2000.

Can anyone help?

specific programs would be nice to know but you can kill most of the process by editing the registry...

click start, run, regedit and press enter.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runservices

You can remove them manually from here. Make sure you back up the keys before removal.

To backup: highlight the key, click export registry file, give it a name and save. Do this to recover from wrong removals. Good time to check for virii that may be loading too :)

Good luck. ~ Whether you think you can or can't, you're right. Henry Ford~

Ares69 has it right but, if you don't find the particular program you're looking for in the registry, don't forget to check the Startup folder (All Users & the specific user).

Thanks MitchCumstein, that is exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks for the great tip.
