i am trying to write a logical statement saying if Revenue is from 2003 put in column one, if Revenue is from 2004 put in this column. Is there any way to write a formula that incorporates field from my selected universe, but are not in my table.

Nope. This is not possible. If you are going to use "If" with dimension, then the dimension must exist in the block.

A better way to do this is to do it at the universe level and use a CASE or decode to bucket the data the way you want.

Another option is to use a different object. If you Year is not set as a dimension, you may be able to do what you want. You can also try including the dimension in your table, but then hiding it.

Sorry to butt in, but wouldn't this be a qualifier for a crosstab instead of a table? (with <year> in the header)
