How do I view .cap files created by netcap.exe?

I installed the network monitor capture utility to try and troubleshoot a Windows Update error at work. I can successfully generate a .cap file, but the KB article fails to tell the user how to view the file once its created. XP doesn't know the correct program the the link it provides doesn't have a clue, either. I tried opening in Word and notepad, but just get garbage characters.

Is it a NetMon Capture File, do you have any option to save the output as a .txt file?

It never offered to "save as" anything.

I have the same problem.
I opened with a hex text editor but it's unintelligible...
I'm trying to find information across the web without success.
I wonder if anyone has ever used netcap...
