How do I use PXE

I have bought a number of laptops I would like to set up using RIS. I've created the image, set up RIS on a W2k3 server and am now looking at pre-staging the laptops.

Firstly, I'm struggling to find out the GUID, so may use unknow GUID pre-installation.

Secondly and more important I am not sure how to get the laptop to PXE boot. The laptops come installed with the vendors OS on the harddrive which I obviously don't want to run. Looking in the BIOS I see boot options for Floppy, CD, HDD and Realtek ?? but I can't see anything about booting to LAN. The laptops spec (Fujitsu-Siemens c1110) comes with Intel 10/100 Wireless 2100 card and the spec sheet says it is PXE compatible?

Anyone any hints on where I should be looking? I'm assuming at the moment I need a boot disk of sorts but not sure what steps to take.

Realtek is a very common networking chipset, so I suspect that your laptops have wired networking built in as well and this is what the Realtek boot option refers to. I'd be extremely surprised if they were able to boot to a wireless network.

Hi Guys
I have a similar problem- my setup is as follows
I have a laptop (Compaq armada M300) without an OS.the laptop doesn't have a built in cd-rom drive.I thought the best way to install windows was by using a RIS server.
I used a win2003 pro domain controller for this. Installed DHCP-and the RIS.
I authorised the dc in the Active directory to send RIS requests.
I connected the laptop to the dc's 2nd NIC using a cross over cable. booted up the laptop pressed F12 when prompted.
then I got the following error message
''PXE-E53 no boot file name''
All I need to do is load XP on the lapto
Please help- I know it's something simple.

have you ticked the box in AD to allow clients to access the image?

Where is that done in the AD?

From memory you access the properties of the RIS server in AD and then there should be a Remote Install tab, on this tab near the top is a section for setting client access. There is a tick box to respond to client access to the image and another to prevent access to unknown clients.

I went into the AD, selected the DC Right clicked on it and went into properties. The option ''respond to client computers requesting service'' was already ticked.
Someone has told me that there's a problem with my DNS.
I've realised that I don't have reverse lookup zones.everytime I do an nslookup I can never resolve a domain name.
Is there a step by step guide of configuring dns. I've tried the microsoft way but it's not easy for a beginner to follow it.
Can I explain what I mean. I've registered a domain name ''mydomain@no-ip.com''
when i do an nslookup I get the following

I guess this means my dns is wrongly configured. Please assist.
