I have a Win98 laptop,Dell PPL Latitude CPI D300xt. The mouse will perform an auto click when it rests on an object for a few seconds. There are no software downloads that is causing this to occur. The mouse setting in control panel looks fine. It happens with the touchpad cursor. Does not have an external mouse connected. Driving me crazy, need HELP!!!

Sounds like you have the touch pad's "tap" feature enabled.

Your laptop should have a configuration utility to disable this.

If you're looking to diable singal click to open, go to your control panel, select folder options and select

"Double click to open [single click to select]" at the bottom of the general tab
