Does anyone know how to stop Outlook Xp from starting when the system boots? In previous Windows versions, I just deleted the shortcut in the startup folder. It appears that this isn't the case with Windows Xp and Outlook Xp as there is no shortcut for it there. Unchecking office startup doesn't solve the problem either. It is really annoying to have Outlook start when I boot up as it slows the boot process. I also checked in the "all users" folder as well as individual account folders too. Is it now an option within Outlook?

can you
Start > Run > msconfig > look in the Startup tab
> uncheck outlook (if it's there)

I'm pretty sure that Outlook itself isn't listed there. The only checkbox related is Office startup and unchecking that doesn't fix the problem. When I say that Outlook runs when Windows bots, I mean the program executes during boot and takes me directly to my email. I don't want this. I looked through every option I could find and see nothing to switch it off. It wasn't like this when first installed. I just want to know how it got that way!

I gotta wait till Monday morning to confirm. Im more interested in how it got set this way in the first place. The way MS arranges option menus/settings in Outlook irritates me to no end. It could go with about a gazillion less windows.

Is there an autoexec.bat file on your PC?

If yes, can you open it with edit or notepad and check for outlook being started there.

There is no listing for it in msconfig. I asked the user how they got it to start like that, and she told me that it was a setting somewhere in Outlook. I looked everywhere and saw nothing. She could not remember where it was :( Guess I'll keep looking.
