Hello,

I need some assistance in shutting down a novell client server so I can relocate it. I've never worked with novell before and I have no idea what the command would be get the machine to shut down properly.

Also, this machine servers as a file server and I wanted to make sure that there is nothing special I have to do when I power it back on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Not sure what a "client server" is... Assuming you mean server (of which there is no 4.91, that's a client version)
at the console, type 'down' and hit enter.

How it boots depends on how it was set up, it should boot fully. if it stops at a c:\ prompt, cd to c:\nwserver and enter 'server'.

if you are moving it to another location then you may have to change the config as well - in terms of ip address etc

If this is a mission critical box, and if you can;t just toss it in a closet and forget about, not miss it and move on, then it is a mission critical box. You are better off hiring a local pro to help you move the box.

It will be cheeper in the long run because if the move does cause you problems, then you will loose lost revenue for what ever function the server services, plus you will have to pay support costs to a techie anyway if you require help to get the box running right.

Doing it right from the start give you the chance to find a consultant you feel comfortable with and possibly get the move under contract so any "unforseen" problems are the consultants problem to fix, and being under contract will prevent you from paying for someone not planning things right.
