I am trying to set up access for remote users to access a directory on my NT 4 Server. The procedure I am using is this: 1. Add a user using the "User manager for domains". 2. Add that user to the FTP Site Operators for that particular FTP site.
Please let me know if this is not correct.

The thing that bothers me is that the computer name is listed before the user name in the FTP site operators field. (for example: WEBSERVER1/fred) Is that is what causing my remote client not to connect since he is not from the WEBSERVER1 domain.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Create a user called Tom in User Manager. Give Tom a difficult password. Set the account to expire in 30 days or whatever.

Create a folder on your FTP server called Tom. Give the security access change permission for Tom.

In IIS Manager, create a virtual folder under FTP to this folder Tom and also call this Tom. Go to the permissions for this and untick anonymous and tick the middle option.

Now give Tom log on locally access.

Now test it.

I actually solved the problem by reading someone else's question. I guess you actually need to login using the new username and password from the server first for it to work with ftp.

Thanks for your help anyways.

I can't logon to my ftp server through my ftp client after i apply the patch for "Web Server Folder Traversal" that i downloaded from microsoft.com with the intention of preventing my IIS Server from being infected by the Nimda worm.

Below is the link to the patch file :

I get the following error from my ftp client :

"530 <username> cannot login. Home directory
inaccessible."

I hope someone can help me out, its urgent. Thank you in advance. I really appreciate it.
