I set up my computer that has two hard drives with a second Windows Installation on drive D.

Now when I boot to it I get a message that says it can’t find the user profile, even though it worked yesterday. Now it opens Windows with a blank screen and the only thing that works is Task Manager.

I would like to remove it and have the boot menu go back to normal.

Can I just delete the Windows installation and Documents and Settings folders or is there some process for removing it.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

You could simply remove the hard drive from the PC that want to keep and then format the hard drive that you don't want anymore and then do what you want with it.

That's pretty safe.

HOW TO: Edit the Boot.ini File in Windows XP (Q289022)

Do not delete any of your booting files which will probably be on your C: drive.

If your D: drive has a self-contained and separate Windows installation, you can do whatever you like to that drive and it will not cause problems to your C: drive Windows.

Thanks for the info Linney.

I got it fixed, getting rid of the boot menu was what gave me a problem but everything is resolved.
