I'm trying to get my mac to go through my pc tower , this should alow me to connect to the internet, but the on thing I need is to know the "proper" way to go about set-up

If you have internet connection sharing set up & working on your PC, you would just tell the Mac to use it as the default gateway.

I would suggest a $20-50 external router. This may be just as expensive as buying another ethernet card for your Windows box but it can be much more versatile.
