Hi all,

I have a small problem that I need to overcome. I want to remove a service from system services.

the service I am trying to remove is an arcserve service called "Arcserve Discovery Service". This is because I am trying to install Arc Serve 2000 under NT4.0. When the program is installing and tries to start the service. I get an error saying that the service failed and could not be started.

I was advised by Arc Serve Support to type in "asdscsvc -remove" then type in "asdscsvc -install". This was supposed to remove and re-install the service to allow my install to continue and start the Arcserve discovery service.

This command is not working, is there another way to remove services?

Just want to add that I want to start the arcserve discovery service and it isnºt allowing me to. I do not want to disable and I have tried to set to manual but nothing.....

What does it return when you type "asdscsvc -remove" at the command line?

Which version of ArcServ was this service installed with (2000, or an older version?) [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Try to delete your service using this command "SC" from command prompt.

"sc /?"

this will give you the list of syntax. u can find syntax for deletion.

Thanks for your replies.

if I run the -remove or sc commands I get the message "The name specified is not recognised as an internal or external command operable program or batch file.

I am running arc serve 2000 Group/Special Edition. I un-installed the program as by Arc Serve support tech doc sent to me by arc serve but all the HKeys under regedt32 were not under the location which arc serve specified only the HKEY for ArcServe was there but for the Arcserve engines I did not find them were arcserve specified them to be. I ended up finding them in HKey_Local_machine -»system -» conrolset -» Enum -» root -»

Under root the ASDBengine, ASDDiscoverySvc, ASJobEngine, and ASTapeEngine were there.

I tried to delete them but received the message "Error Deleting values Unable to delete all specified values".

this is all I want to know how to do, nothing else. Arc Serve cannot seem to give me an answer for this issue. They give me everything accept that answer.

So I thank you both for your help and advise.
