The company I work for recently suffered a server failure, so we had to replace the NT4 server we were using for a new one. We decided to go to W2K server, and keep the domain name the same as it used to be on the NT4 server. Now none of the workstations in the company are trusted by the new server because their SID's are different, and the domain name although the same, uses the netbios name FOODB on the workstations because the old server was NT4 but the new server expects the W2K domain name which is in the long format of foodb.co.uk.

I can't join them to the domain using NETDOM, as it says they are already on a domain, and i can not remove them from the old domain using NETDOM as it says it doesnt exist or cannot be contacted (which is fair enough because its in pieces on the floor) The only solution i have come up with is to manually go to every pc and remove them from the domain and re-add them again, which will be very timeconsuming for an IT team of 2 to do more than 100 pc's, considering it can take 30 minutes to do, including rebuilding the W2K user profile, which is no longer valid once the domain is changed.

I am really looking for a way to do this from the server, so that the user's pc's will be re-trusted without them knowing anything is happening and without having to interrupt their work reconfiguring their pc's. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance

I've heard there's a way to do this with XP clients but not 2000. I think you'll have to join from the client side. Is there anyway to get a backup copy of your old NT4 server? You could restore to the new server and use it or upgrade it to W2K.
