How do I open a port on a Cisco 2600?

I'm trying to establish a VPN to my home office from work, but I need to open UDP port 500 and TCP port 1723. I am an MCSE but know nothing about Cisco routers and we had a consultant set it up for us. If there is a good resource on basic router administration I would love any help you could give me. I do have the router password so I can telnet in... beyond that I have no idea where to go.
