How do I make links on my site 'root relative'?

I found 'document relative' under Insert on the menu, and the help mentions root relative, but doesn't explain how to do it.

when there is a site defined in DW &
when you are inserting a image if you have document relative then the path of the image or link is some thing like ../../xx.gif

or if it is root relative then it is

/images/xx.gif

where "/" is the webroot for the site
