I have 25 W98 systems which use Netbeui for file and print sharing and TCP/IP for internet access. I have been forced to add a ME system and I can't figure out how to load Netbeui for file and print sharing. I don't want to convert the existing systems to TCP/IP if at all possible, I like the idea of only allowing access to files via Netbeui thus isolating the TCP/IP traffic. Poor man's firewall.:)

Thanks

Right-click on My Network Places/Properties...click Add/Protocol/Add, select Microsoft/NetBEUI...if you want to enable File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, do basically the same thing, only add a Service, select Microsoft, then File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. After doing all that, you'll be prompted to reboot...
Hope this is what you need...if not , let us know...:)

Thats where I looked first, but this system doesn't give me a Netbeui option. The system is an Acer Veriton PIII 933 with the Win ME factory loaded. I'm guessing that they didn't include Netbeui for some bright reason, so my question boils down to - how to load Netbeui such that I can use Add/Protcol/Microsoft/Netbeui without reinstalling the whole ME system?

Thanks
Bill

I'm having exact the same problem. How do i install NETBEUI when the option is not there in the configuration screen/network?

Please help.

If you have your disk, try following the add protocol procedure and when you get to the list of protocols, insert your factory disk (hold the shift key down to keep the disk from autoplaying) and click the "have disk" option to load the protocol from the ME program installation disk. Hope this helps

I have WINME and have no problem at all adding Netbeui....In "control panel">>>"network">>>>"add">>"protocol">>"add">>>>hilite MICROSOFT on the left and you should see NETBEUI on the right, hilite that and "ok" and it will install and then ask to REBOOT

The problem is that Protocol Add on our machines does not offer Netbeui as an option and using "Have Disk" and the Win Me disc doesn't seem to work either. As such I have made a policy decision, no more Win ME, all such machines shall be reformated and reloaded with Win 98se. In fact, due to the registration requirements being thrust upon us by Microsoft, we have decided to freeze our systems at Win 98se and Office 2K SR1.

Yup, I switched to windows XP. No problem at all anymore and no more blue screens with illegal operations :). Thx for the help, though. Never ever Windows ME :)
