I have 2 servers running exchange. How do I connect them?

A little more info about how the servers and how your domain/domains are set up would help.

The obvious way is to setup a new x400 connector between the two, on both ends If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.

Ok. I have one server win2k server SP3 w/exchange 2000

2nd server win 2003 server with exchange 2003

server 1 controls 3 .coms 2 are for work one is for play.

I want to make server 2 to handel the play .com.

Since I am using the linksys router you can only foward a port to 1 IP. SO I am going to use mail fowarding internally.

When I try to connect server 2 to server 1 through AD or exchange it says it can not find the server.

Hi Keithschm,

Have you resolved this issue?

Thanks,

Wyz

no not yet. I moved the server to my house to run off my cable modem. I am still having problems connecting them.

Try this as a thought,

On the first server, tell it to "forward all unresolved to.."
and put in the I.P. address of the 2nd server as noted here:[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] (the brackets are necessary for I.P. addresses), that is if you have a external I.P. address for the second box. see if that helps.

What that should do is allow the first server to receive all mail for your domain and then forward any recipients that it doesn't resolve to the second server. This will only allow for forwarding and not true inter-connectivity.

ok that should work. but say I want to add it as a second domain controler. because it is at a different location.

Hi,

Well, now we are a bit out of my league here. I have not worked with Exchange 2003/Windows 2003 and am not sure what is different from Exchange 2000/Windows 2000.

Are you asking how to set up that Exchange/Windows 2003 server as a domain controller for your existing forest?

Wyz

yes I am trying to add it to my forest. I have also tried with another win 2000 server but I am unable to do so

There is the possibility that you won't be able to do that action. Most likely, the Windows 2003 server wants to be top dog (so to speak), and will allow for the 2000 server to join it as a dc of the forest.

Like I said earlier, I'm weak in this area since I haven't worked with Windows 2003.
