How do I host www.myname.com?

I would like to start a domain name company where people can register domain names through me, how do I do this? Can I just set up my servers and run some type of DNS and choose my own names, or do I have to go through a company like Network Solutions?

Contact Internic if you want to become a domain name registar. Know that I've never done this, but it's a place to start.

You would think that if you register the domain on your own DNS server, that would be enough, but I don't think it is. Bummer.
