How do I get rid of the multi boot option on boot up.

I have a computer that I was going to upgrade to xp for someone but it is not compatable with xp. Now when I boot up it has a choice of operating systems. I want to get rid of this menu on boot up. It is running ME and the XP was only partally installed. I have removed the xp but it still is in the boot.

This is all located in the boot.ini file. MAKE SURE you back this file up before editing it, just in case.

Just remember too - you have now got an XP boot sector (needs ntldr, ntdetect.com, boot.ini and bootsect.dos in the root of C: to work), rather than an ME one. Boot.ini should look something like this:-

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=C:[operating systems]
C:\="Windows ME"

You can restore ME boot sector by running sys C: from a dos prompt (can't remember if you can do this from within ME or need to boot from ME boot floppy). If you do this, save the file msdos.sys (in the root of C first. Sys C: can overwrite it with a minimal one, which boots to a dos prompt. If that happens, just copy saved version back (from the dos prompt) and reboot.
