How do I get access to folders that are denied? 2

Hi

I keep running into this problem.
In this case I wan't to copy my "Cookies" folder to my external hard drive to that I can copy them back into my new computer when it gets here.

The folder located at Users\Mikes\Cookies

I have gone into options and told it to share etc, but nothing I have done will even let me look in the folder so I can see it's contents.

I have run into this before and never figured out why it won't let me access certain folders, I am the only user.
How do I convince it that I am the administrator or whatever.

HI

I use CCleaner every day it it removes all the cookies I don't want.

It also preservers the cookies I do want i.e. like the one that recognizes me when I log into this web site and others that I visit regularly like Amazon.com etc.

I wan't to preserve those on my new computer so I don't have to enter the information again.

I'm not sure that I even remember some of the passwords it has been so long since I had to enter them.

I can see the list in CCleaner but it won't let me copy them.

Hi again.

Thanks for the info. At least I know how to log in as administrator now.

The only problem was that when I log in as Administrator there is't any cookies folder. I ran search of the whole drive and no cookies.

I guess I'll just have to give up on this one.
I've been working for two days trying to get everything that I may need copied to my external hard drives before the new computer arrives.

I don't think you are going to the correct folder, especially if the one you are clicking on has a Shortcut arrow in the icon?

C:\Users\MIKES\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies

You might have to show BOTH Hidden and System files via Folder Options/ View.

Try opening Internet explorer go to file import/export select export and check cookies. Export them to a folder either on the other drive or a folder you create.

Well The problem seems to be that I don't use Internet Explorer, I use Google Chrome and I can't find out where the cookies are stored.

It doesn't appear that there is an option to export them in Chrome and when I look at the location I found for them they aren't there.

So I will make sure I write down which user ID I use for each site and if I can't remember the password I will use the option to have them send it to me.

I did copy the links to all the sites I am talking about to a document so that I can get back to them quickly.

I have asked on the Google Chrome site to see if anyone knows how to copy the cookies.

there's a Cookies" file in Chrome's app-data directory that you could always copy to a folder

On Vista: C:\Users\Mikes\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\

Unfortunately Goolge Chrome offers only a delete cooking option. There is no way to copy them.

I looked at the first link and downloaded the app but it soon became obvious that this is too complicated for me.

I will just do it the hard way and make new cookies once I get everything on my new computer and can log in to all the web sites.

I like the way that Chrome works, i.e. just dragging the link to an action bar. It makes it very easy to get back to a link such as this forum subject and it is very fast compared to IE, but it does have it's downside as well.

I think I have it.

I found a file named cookies at...

C:\users\username\appdata\Local\google\chrome\User Data\Default

I copied it to my external HD and will try replacing it in the new installation.
