I have Windows 2000 Server (IIS 5.0) and am trying to run a web application but it says to fully enable its features that I have to enable/open ports 9000-9999 for web deployment.

I'm new to the networking side of things so I have no idea how to go about doing this. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your ports 9000-9999 are automatically open in Windows 2000. If you are getting an error message then a firewall is closing those ports.

If you are using a router then most likely you will have one there. If you are running a software-based firewall then you will need to open the ports there also.

In addition to knowing the port numbers, you will also need to know whether your application needs the ports set to TCP, UDP or both. Check with the manufacturer settings for either product for opening these ports.

Good luck,
Jim
