I have to debug some DTS scripts created by someone who has left the firm. I only have SQL Server 2005 (developer edition) on my machine and that doesn't seem to include any tools that let me access DTS packages, or at least nothing that I can find in Management Studio. There doesn't seem to be anything called 'Enterprise Manager' in the 2005 suite.

So my question is, what do I need to install to get a tool which will let me edit DTS packages? I don't really want to install a full SQL Server 2000 suite just for a single tool but I can't seem to see anything which just installs the management tools.

Thanks

You will have to download the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components.

The msi is listed in the feature pack for 2005 here

Highly recommended you rewrite the packages for SSIS though. Good to get a jump on it sense DTS will be completely gone in teh coming release of SQL Server

Hi onpnt, thanks for the link. I've downloaded and installed the MSI but there don't seem to be any extra options or items on Management Studio. How do I actually edit (or even see!) the DTS packages?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to DTS!

Thanks

You should see a option under Management that says Legacy. Click that and you'll see Data Transformation Services

You can also read the readme on the msi :) Those usually help

Ah, excellent, thank you. The MSI didn't come with a readme and the download page just says you can "maintain existing DTS packages from the Object Explorer", which didn't help much!
