I need to convert a quark doc to pdf to ftp to the printer. They can't tell me exactly how to do it, and so far I can't find the information anywhere. I think I'm getting that it needs to be a postscript first but how?
ok.. I havent done much Quark to PDF conversion lately, so things might have changed a little. I can tell you how i used to do it running Quark 4.
It worked for us by having Adobe Acrobat installed on the computer. I would treat my Quark document as if i were printing it, then when it prompted me to select a printer to send to, I would chose "Acrobat PDF Writer". It would then ask me for a file name and a few other things, then would print to PDF for me.
Again, I cant promise it still works that way, but in theory it should. If i am wrong, I appologize. Hope that was helpful.
Don't know what platform you're on or what software and printer you've got but here's another (more complicated) way...
If you're on a MAC...
Chooser > Adobe PS (printer)
Quark > Print > Save to Desktop as whatever.PS file > Click Setup tab > Printer Description is Distiller > Output tab to CMYK (very important)> Click Printer button > Change General to Postscript settings > Data Format to Binary > Destination button - Choose FILE > Save to Desktop
Open in Acrobat Distiller
Save as PDF file
Hopefully, Rease's way will work for you but if it doesn't (may be missing fonts at the printer's) try going through this laborious routine.
If you are on a PC system, again print and chose "Adobe Distiller" for post-script printers or "Adobe PDF writer" for a non-post script printer.
Also, Distiller comes with a Press preset. So before you print to a .ps file from Quark, open Distiller and select the Press preset from the Job Options menu. It will create your PDF with CMYK high resolution output for your printer.
