How do I configure Outlook Express to share 1 email ad

Here's the picture: I have 5 or so users that need to share 1 email ad. They all have Outlook Express only. How do I setup these stations to be able to send and receive email from this single account as if they are accessing their own?

If you set up the e-mail account on each workstation, you can then choose to tick the following option:

Launch Outlook Express on each machine
Click Tools > Accounts > Mail > and select the account in question
Click on Properties
Select the Advanced tab
Tick the box "Leave a Copy of Messages on the Server"
Click Apply and OK

The effect of this will be to allow each user to download all the mail sent to this account onto each machine. They can of course send out e-mail from this account. Although all outgoing mail will come from the same e-mail address, you can append a different signature to each PC to distinguish between users.

You can do this as follows:
Launch Outlook Express
Click on Tools > Options > Signatures >
Select whether you wish this signature to be included on all outgoing messages , or not to replies and forwards.
Click on New and either create a text signature or attach a file.
Click Set as Default to apply this to all accounts on this pc without a designated signature
OR
Click Advanced and select which e-mail address this is to apply to. Click OK
Click Apply and OK

Bear in mind that as you have instructed each version of Outlook Express to collect only a copy of the e-mail and to leave one copy on the server, you will need to appoint someone in an Administrative capacity to remove e-mail from the server on a regular basis to prevent your mailbox becoming full or "blocked"

You can do this by setting up an instance of Outlook Express without the "Leave copy" option ticked. When mail is downloaded on this PC it will automatically remove all mail from the server, thus emptying your maibox.


If however you don't wish each individual to be able to read all the incoming mail, this isn't going to be the answer for you.

That part is not that difficult. Actually, rather than fetch ALL the mails, even those not intended for one particular user, Outlook allows me to setup filtering rules, like fetch mails only if a certain name appears in the recepient's address.

What I want to learn is if it is possible to use this format:
"user name" commonmail@url.com -or-
<user name>commonmail@url.com ...or something like this

The &quot;user name&quot; part will be my criteria.

Part 2 of my query is how do I setup the account in an Internet Sharing environment?
There is 1 station that has direct connection w/ a modem to the ISP. Other clients will &quot;share&quot; with this account following a format similar to above.

I've seen such network setup in 2 approaches: 1 is using a mailer daemon, and the other is what I'm querying now.

I hope I explained well my post. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm afraid I can't answer your query, as I just don't know enough about the methods you want to use .... but I'll be interested to see what advice anyone else might be able to give! I'd like to know how to do this too .....

What OS is the pc the has the direct internet connection have. You can do this will Xp's internet connection sharing and then allow POP3 and SMTP through Sharing program.

This station has IP 192.168.0.10

Other hosts use this IP as their gateway. But with Outlook, how do I tell Outlook to divert its POP3 and SMTP servers to this IP. I tried using the above IP but didn't work, or maybe I missed some information.

I can't understand the need for all users to share the same e-mail address.
It raises all the problems and glitches mentioned above.
Any ISP gives at least 5 email addresses with a single account.

Setting up an XP or Win2000 machine for Internet Connection Sharing is straightforward.
With regard to the IP question. Is PC 192.168.0.10 the mail server??

You need to explain your requirements/questions more clearly!

Sorry for the lack of clarity. Anyway, I am able to find another way around. Thanks for all your help and sorry for the troubles.

Here's my goal:

I am developing a warehouse inventory system with an online query. Each remote PC will have a client application that can query stock position via Outlook. Transaction is unattended. User just fill in the details of his query and sends this info with a click. The email is sent and received by the appropriate server application. There are 4 server applications each with its own data bank. These server apps will monitor/fetch pre-formatted emails and respond accordingly. While the remote users may have their individual email ads, these 4 server apps (installed on 4 PC) will transact unto a single email ad.

The remote user can then expect recieving mail any time after forwarding the query.

Here's what I am planning. Each of the 4 server apps Outlook will be configured following Dragonnette suggestion.
Just a typical mail configuration for replying only. The &quot;mail server&quot; will fetch ALL emails, including pre-formatted stock pos. queries. The server apps will, in a regular time interval, fetch stock pos. queries and reply accordingly.
