Hello;I have a good one here.First of all I have a old dos machine dos 6.2 and a 24x cd rom drive. My question is,why can't I burn old dos games to a 80 min 700mb 52x cdr in seperate directory's on my windows xp pro machine.Put the cdr in the dos machine and read it?? all I can see is the seperate directory's I put the games in,I go into each of those directory's and there empty??on the dos machine, all there on the windows machine??Is there a way to do this, where the dos machine will read the cdr?? Do I need slower cdr's older ones?? I don't get what's going on,and if there's away around this.I have a bunch of old dos games,I want to put on a cdr and be able to read it on the dos machine.I tried burnning at a slow speed 2x,4x ect no change. Is it possible??Thanks in advance.

It seems like your burning software isn't reading all the files? This is a problem, especially if the software uses Explorer shell routines to pick up the file locations. You might load up explorer and see if it's set to show all files or not.

Good question: What is the software you are using to make these disks?

Hi;I'm using copytodvd 4.0.4.60. I just selected all the game directorys about 400MB or so,added to the Dvd Depot it's called, then burned data disk from there.Reads fine on the xp pro machine I burned it on.But not on the old dos machine, dos 6.2 and a 24x cd rom drive, just reads the directorys, most of them are empty? weird hey.Ya I know it's an old dos machine, but still has alot of old classics on it,and I just wondered if i'm doing something wrong?? Maybe I need a different burning software.should dos read these 80min disks?

DOS is incompatible with Joliet, LFN, whatever else. You need to burn them in pure ISO format.

And whether the 80min disks are read or not is dependent on the CD-drive. Older drives won't read them properly.

Can you still get the older cdr's the ones older cd rom drives can read?? I set my copytodvd software to include ISO 9660 (MS-DOS) on the media I also have Joliet Selected also,UDF 1.02(long file names & asian characters)CGMS(copyright management)and ISO file version(Version number for ISO 9660 file system)all selected in settings, and also to include hidden files, and preserve path names. It must be the 80min.52x cdr's causing the problem.are those old cdr's still availible anywhere? I think they where 600MB 74min. something like that.

You need to set the BURN soft to use ONLY ISO 9660 (MS-DOS)...

and you should finalize the burn process, should be a setting in the burn software, ergo no multisession!

A whole different approach when frustration temporarily takes over would be to look into running DOSBOX on your XP machine. Does wonders breathing new life into old DOS games.

Freestone - thanks for that link, I've got my favourite pinball game back! (never was quite right running on 98 virtual machine).

You're welcome, wolluf! DOSBOX is truly amazing (at least to me) on just how well it resurrects old DOS games.
