I'm ploughing my way through Viescas but still haven't quite got how Data Access Pages work.

It looks like Access/you generate html pages with embedded scripts that use a Windows service - MSODSC Object - to directly connect to the Jet database rather than via the usual route of sending form data to a server-side script which then interrogates the database.

At the moment I can't generate any pages as I don't have a web server accessible so i can't see what's on a generated page. What I'm trying to work out at the moment is how the web page knows where the database is and how it links to it - on a simple network eg intranet maybe it maps a drive/file but what about where it just has http?
