My vendor wants to install Alcatel switches instead of Cisco. I am concerned about this move because I am not familiar with this company.

How do Alcatel switches compare with Cisco switches?

They are both very good switches.
Things to compare are COST, redunancy options, also compare cost of phones when adding phones and replacing broken ones.
Every system is different. Which is easier to do add, moves and changes. If you do not want to make changes yourself, there will be a charge to move a phone or bebuild a voice mail box when there is a staff change.
