Lately I've been browsing forums and ran into nothing but malicious users who only insulted me and were of no help. All I want is some info. Now my problem is that I built my own computer from the ground up and I need help understanding it and if what I got was a good choice. I started this misadventure 5 months ago and would like to keep going with a little bit of advice of course. So if you guys could help me along I would appreciate it. Now the board I went with was a MSI kt6 delta lsr with an athlon 2600+ processor. I got both new for $195. I also got Kingston hyper X PC4000 ram, which is overkill I know but at $115 I couldn't refuse. Then I bought the fx5900 video card and a maxtor 40gb hard drive. Tne rest were donations from friends like a wireless keyboard and a 19" moniter. All in all it cost me roughly $700 bucks. So how did I do? Later I'll be asking how to run it.

Sorry to hear that you've had a hard time with others - hopefully no one from this site. If it does happen here, [red]red-flag[/red] the post to let management know.

As for your system, it's not too shabby for the price. Here are some prices I pulled off of
256MB Kingston HyperX PC4000
$84
MSI KT6 Delta LSR
$73
OEM - AMD Athlon 2600+ 333MHz FSB
$87
MSI FX-5900 256MB
$328
Maxtor 7200RPM 40GB w/ 2MB cache
$47

Total = $619

* each price includes shipping and is retail unless otherwise stated

Of course, $700 is not far off of that mark. Plus, I took the lowest price regardless of dealer or reputation. Sometimes it is worth the extra money to buy from only one or two dealers to cut down on the paperwork and shipping.

Sorry to hear about your bad treatment on *other* forums. That WILL NOT happen here on Tek-Tips, since we welcome everyone from NOOB to L337.

I applaud your choice of MSI motherboard with the KT600 chipset - for the money they provide outstanding features and great performance. If I was buying a new AMD board right now, I would choose that one, or the FISR version.

Otherwise a nice set-up, and reasonable price.

If you have any issues with it at all you'll find that there's no better site for solutions than Tek-Tips - different, yes, better, no. :)

Seriously thanks guys. Now I know were to go from now on.
