Our customer has a IP406, now they are going to networking with a IP500 4.24. It is better to upgrade old IP406 to same version and also need install a VCM card in old IP406.
I have a VCM4, does that work with IP406v1?

you can't downgrade the IP 500 ( at least I would not chose to go to the 4.0 version as it is real cr@p) so you have to upgrade the 406 to a version that is compatible with the 4.2.4 of the IP 500.
There is an easy test to see if you can upgrade to the 4.2 version, run monitor and have system resources enabled in the Filters then see if the memory is around 40 MB free then you know that you have enough memory to run the 4.2.

but the 406 V1 is only going up until 3.2 and if my memory is not failing me that is still compatible with the 4.2 in a SCN, even if Avaya says it is not supported it might still work.

VCM4 in 406 V1 ??? Don't know

Mixed SCN networks are supported for N and N-1 releases. This means you can mix 3.2 with 4.x sites or 2.1 with 3.x sites. For best results, you will need to upgrade the 2.1 sites to 3.2 and ensure that the IP Office site with centralised VM Pro is running 4.x.

The answer to your question in your headline is:

The 406v1 does not have any Extensions ports on the Unit.
The 406v2 have 8 DS ports and 2 analouge.

The IP406v1 and IP403 are compatible with IP400 VCM cards: 5, 10 and 20; 4, 8 and 16 if they are on higher than 2.1. Maximum VCM channels is 20 (so you can't use the VCM24 or 30). 406v2 can use any of them.

also bear in mind there are different versions of v2 406. if you want to install v4.1+ software on it, it needs to be a pcs08(07?) or later as the earlier versions dont have enough memory.

easiest way to check, is open Monitor, and check the number of digits for Free Memory. if the count is 8, then you are good to go!

thsnks for replies. I belive it is a IP406v2, because It got 8 DS and 2 analogue ports. But still not sure it can be upgrade to v4.+

that is the important thing, it gives you the green light to upgrade as it means that the memory in the unit is the 64MB and so big enough to handle the R4.0 and higher release

This is a 64mb version so you can upgrade it

I upgrade the IP Office manager to 6.2(4), then use upgrade wizard, only tick the contral unit (display IP406 DS 3.2(57) 4.2(4). finally I got "all seleted units failed to transfer

You need to restart the PC after upgrading Manager or this sometimes happens.

I will try restart PC. If this still cann't make it working, what else can I do. Anybody can tell me how to use DTE Flash upgrade?

Do you have the right system password? That is usually a problem. the default upgrade password is password.
