Hi all,

I need to conect a VFP aplication from two diferent cities, wich one is the best way of doing this?

thanks in advance

Gert

Centralize the application on a server and connect the two Cities with high speed connection. Or make one computer the the 'host' and have to other computers connect to it.

Hi

I hope some one comes out with a nice article or detailed step by step guide for a web based application.

VFP8 and now VFP9 is all going to be more and more web efficient productions.

As a person, who has developed in almose all FP and VFP versions since FoxBase, the earlier lack of web based accoiunting has kept my ignorance a bit. However, remote controled software has been plently in my developments. Based on the local costs where the local lines are absolutely free, I have always used REMOTE CONTROL softwares... CLOSEUP in DOS days to REACHOUT nowadays for the remote control purpose (using a modem) and so, the applications run at the LAN speed on a 56K modem. The down side is the use of one representative unit at the server place for each remote station. Compared to Terminal emulation, this was pretty fast and so I stayed with this.

But looking international or remote towns (I dont have any such requirement), web based applications development will be the future. Necessity is the mother of inventions. Demand leads to growth and experience to perfection..

So, while I have informed the remote control methods, that is not cost effective for broad based requirements.

Using the views and upgrading to remote views will be the way to proceed.

Hope I have said correctly and would like to hear the views of people who have implemented such applications.

SQL server or such data server could handle in different ways using connectivity which may remain same. But a normal VFP based application handling the whole data will be a nice thing to know.

:)

There's quite a lot of stuff like that on the West Wind site. Also, Whil Hentzen wrote a series of articles on that subject in Foxtalk a few years ago.

You might also consider using terminalserver so that all data will be processed on the server thus reducing network (internet) traffic.

Hi all thank for your answer, but i cant figure it out how to conect the computer?

I work the same as in a LAN network?

How do i know the server path using a moden or a ADSL connection?

Mike,

Could you tell me where to find the articles wrote by Whil Hentzena.

They appeared in FoxTalk magazine. I don't remember when they appeared -- I think it was at least two years ago, maybe more -- but you might find them at
