I don't think I deserve to be there.... What is the logic behind that? I am far from being on here as an expert!!!! ,.... Hey, but, it is ok with me.....
Watch-out Ramani and rgbean... lol lol

I think if you look at the full list of "experts", it's a combination of answers given and "Tip-Masters" stars received and maybe FAQ written. If you receive another star you will be tied with with three other people and on and on...And you will need 305 to beat Ramani (If he stops getting any from now on ) ;-)
I might add that from my observation recent Stars count for more than the total number of stars. This makes sense since if someone was a big expert for a while but has been gone for a year, it makes no sense to show him as a top expert. I've made the list a couple of times when I've got 2-3 stars quickly but generally I'm down with the rest of the learners. But I do chat a lot; like now, so I'm well up on the total number of messages. Dave Dardinger
If there would be not so high danger that the bottle could break during transport I would
send one of you a bottle with 5 stars with french cognac in (VSOP) but I do not know
who has the best corkscrew of you.
Last week I was asked by somebody "are you German?" - and as I said "Yes" he asked me:
"..and why are you not drunken?"
Tekno,
Welcome to the list, but just remember that like in many situations you're only as good as your last good answer! "Bad" answers and irritating people can make you most "unpopular" in a hurry! Longevity and consistency is what really matters.
Rick
P.S. Don't be discouraged by those that take your "best" answers and don't give you any stars or even acknowledgment.
Heh...I can vouch for this myself. There was a period of about 2-3 days when I was actually in the #1 spot. Of course, then Ramani jumped right back up again where he belongs. *grins*
I have been working in Visual FoxPro for almost 2 years now. I hardly consider myself to be an expert in the language. Most of the board newcomers know more about it than I do. All it means is that others have learned from me, that I was able to help them. That gives me a REALLY good feeling, you know what I mean?
I came looking for help...and stayed to offer some of my own. It is no exaggeration to say that I learned 90% of what I know from this forum. I'm just proud to be able to give back.
When I came here the first time some months ago I asked Mike Gagnon whether some of those "gurus" earn their
money here by advising help and I was very pleased about his answer:
He said:
"No, we all do it for free. It just keeps our programming minds sharp."
There has nothing to be added - today where everybody is fighting for money this is a marvellous rarity....
and for me this is the best Internet site here, since I too learned more than every before during that short time.
Especially the patience and discipline even in case of "heavy" understanding-problems is remarkable.
I never saw bad words in any answers here so far - and that makes this site so comfortable - and when we
see do different nations communicating here - this is a little bit of peace in a cruel world too.
Just to finish my thoughts on the subject I'd like to thank some people how tirelessly give of their time to help us better understand FoxPro.
Fred Taylor (not here but on the newsgroup, his insight has been inspirational)
Rick Bean (rbean to you and I ) He is everywhere all day long giving great advice, which must come from a multitude of projects he worked on ( at least I hope so)
Ramini, what can be said about the infallible Ramani. I'm sure he knows Bill Gates personally.
And every one else (like chpicker, who is that ?)
There are so many others on the newsgroups, UT ect...
Sorry, Ian, I didn't mean anything derogatory. I mean after 15 years in the Fox community, you get to know the players. Your handle "chpicker" is not familiar except here. I don't see your handle or your name "Ian" anywhere else on the net (ie: UT or newsgroups) . Ever been to a Devcon?
I've been using fox since it's inception. The only top honors I get are for ignorant questions, and stupid answers. I would not be able to survive in today's programming world if it were not for those in this community. So maybe this is the place to say:
Tek-Tips is the only FoxPro forum I've ever participated in. I've occasionally taken links to Fox Wikis or UT, but I've never posted to either. And I've never been to a Devcon.
As my life shifts more and more into programming focus, perhaps I'll get more involved, but as it stands Tek-Tips members have been able to solve any issues I ran into. I've never felt any need to go elsewhere. )
