I am trying to test a new Global policy change i made.. and it doesnt seem to be updating and i cant find where i can set the refresh rate, or rate which the clients check to see if there is a change.. so If anyone knows where to find this, or/and how i can manually update a computer i am working on I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance!

Get the users / or your self to log in and out. If set up properly will start using the said policy settings and use the changes. You can't just refresh like in Internet Explorer. I do this all the time to test my changes with out effecting the daily operations of my staff. Make a change log out and in and test. If you like the change let the office know to do this as well, or say nothing and the next time they log it will be changed.

Nice to do especially if your restricting something people are abusing ;)

On Windows 2000 use the following at the command prompt to update the policies respectively:
secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy
secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy

On Windows XP use the following:
gpupdate
gpupdate /target:computer
gpupdate /target:user

gpupdate by itself will update both the computer configuration and the user configuration.

Hope that helps.

Great thank you guys so much!

I have tried it and the suggestions worked great. One more question, does the GPO apply to computers with ME or 98? or are they unaffected by the Global Policy?

thanks again.

Only Windows 2000 and Windows XP support GPOs.

For windows 98 you can use poledit that comes on the windows 98 cd, I think it is in the resource kit...
