I had to turn off the XP firewall on two computers. Now I constantly get a bubble popup in the lower right corner of the task bar, which keeps reminding me that I am at risk. This happens constantly throughout the day and is very annoying. Does anyone know how to turn if off – forever?

As to notifications appearing and stopping them, from the newsgroups. Open notepad and create a new file to be called no_complain.reg and then copy/paste the below:

---------Start copy/paste below this line-------
REGEDIT4

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;
; Dont complain about the firewall being off.
;
; Also turns off anti-virus and Automatic Update warnings.
; Comment out the lines below as desired.
;

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center]
"FirewallOverride"=dword:00000001
"FirewallDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000001

---------End cut here---------

Save the file and then double click it to merge with your registry. Reboot.

Please let me note that the above registry edit includes all the notifications involved with Service Pack 2. Please pick and choose as needed and delete the others.

See "Change the way Security Center alerts me" via Control Panel/Security Center/ Resources.

The options are provided via check boxes.

You do have some other firewall protection don't you, or are you going to surf without a firewall?

Another one for the bookmarks... Thanks :)

Thanx for the help.

I had to turn off the XP Firewall because ACT7 (regular addition) will not run over a network with it on.

Yes, we do have other firewall protection.

The quick fix is to double click on that to open up the security center, then there's a link to "change the way security center alerts me" and uncheck all the options.

dakota81,

linney had mentioned using the Security Center GUI above.

But there is nothing slow about the registry change.
Given a thousand machines I will be done before your method allows you to fix 10 workstations. :)

I'm glad I don't have a thousand workstations to do; only two machines.

I have tried both methods amd they both work. But the registry method gives a couple extry options. And I always like more options when I can get them.
