I am running office XP on my laptop and new desktop. I want to bring all the info I had on my Outlook of the laptop to the desktop. I have looked for a little bit for a wizard and hae not found one. The laptop is running windows xp and the desktop is running windows 2000. Both are office xp

Both, I would like to copy the entire thing to the new computer

The file you need to grab from the old pc is usually titled outlook.pst and you may have archive files as well.
Search the hard drive of the old PC looking for *.pst do not forget the *. Copy the files to your new pc in the same directory and you will be set.

I have a similar problem.

Dell Latitude D600 w/ W2K Pro, and OfficeXP. Use Outlook (not express) for email, contacts, meetings - essentially my whole life.

My computer was infected with a virus and although I believe I rid my computer of it, the quarantine process removed so many files I had to reformat and start again. I was able to salvage all my files and burn them to CD's. The only one that concerns me at the moment is Outlook.pst.

I have tried 6-ways-to-Sunday to get Outlook to accept the .pst file I rescued, but no dice. If I put it in place of the system generated .pst file Outlook won't accept it and won't even open. I have tried to change the attribute of the file to perhaps get Outlook to accept it, but am told I don't have the authority.

@&@)_+%$@% I don't have the authority. It's my computer, I paid for it and the programs and I created everything. I am its maker...I feel so helpless.

I am missing something here but don't know what.

HELP, please.

Cant you import the data from the old .pst file into the new Outlook?

File > Import and Export... > From a program or file and choose the .pst option.

Alternatively, File > Data File Management... Add... then browse to your old .pst file (its a good idea to remane it and to put it in your Outlook folder with all the other .pst files) and that data source should be added to your new setup.

I'm not sure what the issue was. I check Microsoft's knowledge base and found the error I was getting. It mentioned that if the file was set to read-only I would get the error message.

The odd thing is that originally the file was set to not-read-only and I couldn't import it. I then changed it to read-only and still couldn't work with it. I had made it read-only becasue I thought the working file was read-only (it isn't). After reading the article, I changed it back to not-read-only and was able to import it. HOOOOOORRRRAAAAAYYY!

For other with the same challenge, make sure the system created file (when you first install Outlook) is not-read-only (right-click | properties), AND make sure the saved file is also not-read-only.

munkee25 thank you for replying.
