Hello,

I have a ASUS A7V8X mobo with a AMD ATHLON XP 2400+ processor which can run at a FSB of 266mhz. The motherboard supports this and also FSB 333mhz and 400mhz. I have PC2600 memory which runs at 333mhz.

Where can I set the FSB of the processor. In the BIOS I can set the speed of the memory. This is at 333 mhz but I can't see the FSB for the CPU or is this the same one as for the memory.

Can a CPU with a FSB of 266 work together with memory that runs at a FSB of 333mhz ? Well yes because my system does but does that mean that the FSB is lowered for the memory ?

ASUS delivers software with the mobo called PCProbe. It allows you to monitor voltages and temperatures of the mobo. It also displays other information about the mobo. On one page there is an field that says "External Frequency" and it displays 133mhz. Is this the FSB ?

Thanks in advance,

Pascal.

CPU FSB and memory FSB speeds are independent of one another.

Athlon XP CPU's have a fixed FSB speed and multiplier, so they cannot be changed by design. If your CPU is shown running at 2 GHz in BIOS, then it's running at the correct speed and you do not have to worry about it.

And since you're using 333 MHz DDR(double data rate) SDRAM, then it's designed to run on a 166 MHz FSB(2 X 166 = 333).

Set the board to Auto select in the bios and see what it reports the processor as. Asus has pretty good Jumper Free Mode on their motherboards. They have been using fewer and fewer settings with jumpers.
