How can I know which driver is missing or corrupted in Win98 SE? 3

I got a blue screen when I started Win 98 SE this morning with Error Code 0E ( a missing driver ?? ) . How can I know which missing driver to reload ? I'm getting sick , thinking of the obvious solution reinstalling Win98 SE !! There must be an easier way.. Please help
 
Try booting into safe mode (ctrl key while booting,select safe mode) and look in device manager. This should give you the exclamation point or question mark next to the device that is the culprit. Hope this helps.
 
I checked device manager and everything looked o.K. ..Further advices most welcomed ..Thanks
 
Hardware Info:
Go to Start>Run, type hwinfo /ui
This shows the hidden user interface and shows problems in red text.

Dr. Watson
Go to Start>Run, type drwatson
He will appear in the tray area, just right-click and choose Dr Watson to take a snapshot.

DirectX information
Go to Start>Run, type dxinfo.Look for version conflicts and run the tests.

Look over the contents of the c:\bootlog.txt file for failed actions.

Hit F8 on startup, choose step-by-step configuration. When you hit the right (wrong) driver, you may receive an error message.

I'd never heard of hwinfo /ui before, wasted youth I guess, but what does the list under Run Key items relate to? I couldn't see any correlation with the Run key in the registry. (I didn't know whether to start a new thread on this, sorry if this is unhelpful).
 
Good question, Paul

First delete the hidden file named C:\WINDOWS\Hwinfo.dat, then run hwinfo /ui. That helped me, thanks :)

Aha! It matches now, thanks Reg. How do you find out about these things, is it just sheer genius? You come up with stuff I've never heard of, and I thought I knew a little about computer stuff :p
 
I agree paul. I thought I knew more than most people. Then reghakr pulls these answers out of the air and I am humbled. Darn, now I will have to learn more!
