Running 2003 exchange with a internet threat protection linux based system called Network Box. The network box catches 70% of spam mail. Is it possible to filter spam from exchange? We do not use Junk mail filter (OUTLOOK 2003) on client machines because cache mode has been disabled.

You will have to look at 3rd party products as Exchange cannot do it internally.

Something like Clearswift MIMESweeper or the symantec Exchange Filtering Product.

We use IMF at a lot of customer locations and it works great. Since it is free I would suggest giving it a try first. I usually go with settings of 5, Archive, 5.

Additionally, we implement a web page to allow us to peruse the SPAM and deliver any false positives. I'm using code I modified that was written by someone else, if interested in that let me know and I will try to find the distribution point for the originals for you.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Excellent advice guys...few options there. I'm gonna do some research before I jump in!

Mark, the web page code you talk about sounds interesting...if you have any more info, that'd be great.

Personally, I have a linux box running postfix, amavis, bitdefenderAV, spamassassin, and some other goodies sitting in front of my exchange box. Nice and secure, with lots of options available for content filtering, or anything else I need.

I've made what I would consider important modifications to the code I posted the link for. Still checking my comments to be sure I am giving proper credit to the original author. Will try and post a link to my changes after I've verified all is well with the changes.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

I vote for Frontbridge. They are awesome.

GFi Mail Essentials, IMF, all do about the same since they are the same underneath.

Mind you, try thinking positively about spam not getting through. :)
