At one time I installed a test server (NW6) into the NW4.11 tree. The only object that still remains is the License Object (Novell+Netware 6 Server+600) and its subordinate (SN:XXXXXXXXX). The license object will not delete because of the subordinate and the Serial Number object will not delete because even an admin login does not have sufficient rights. I can find no information anywhere on how to get rid of this. It may be causing a problem with a NW4.11 to NW5.1 migration. DSRepair reports no problems. All things patched to date. Any ideas on how to force this object out?

Generally, only the user that installed the license can delete it. Even an admin with full supervisor rights doesn't have rights to the license that someone else installed. You should be able to see the name of the user that installed it by looking in Nwadmin. Login as that user and then you should be able to do that.
You might have to delete some from NWADMIN and some from Console One.

You can download ConsoleOne from Novell and install it to your workstation harddrive and access the tree that way.
And if you go into NWADMIN, open the license container, go to the details of the NW6 license, and then click on the "INSTALLER" tab, that will show you the username you need to use to delete it.
Like I mentioned earlier, it does not matter if you have admin rights or not. To delete a netware 6 license, you have to be logged in as the same user that created it.
So, to summarize, this is what you need to do:
1) Find what user created the license. login as that user.
2) Delete with Console One if you can't do it with NWADMIN.

The Details option is greyed out in NWADMIN. The person who installed it was only me (either as admin or my own logon). Either logon is unable to delete the objects. ConsoleOne 1.3.6 will allow me see the objects, but the following results apply to either login .... If I try to delete the License Number Object it reports "Delete Failed. You must have Object Delete rights to be able to delete the object". When I try to look at the Trustees of the License Number Object it reports "You don't have rights to read the ACLs of this object. Therefore the inherited rights page and the trustees of this object page will not be displayed". If I try to delete the License Object Container it reports "(Error -629) The object being deleted or modified is not a leaf object. A container object that does not contain any objects is considered a leaf object, and therefore can be deleted. The object "Novell+Netware 6 Server+600" could not be deleted"

I know exactly what you're talking about. Have seen this a bazillion times. And my previous statement(s) stand.
You might try logging completely out of the tree..reboot, login to workstation only.. Then map a drive to the server holding the master replica with the license object. Authenticate as someone with full supervisor access to [root]. Then run NWADMIN from the drive you just mapped. See if you can get the details tab. Sometimes if you are having DS issues, you get different views depending on which server you're pulling the DS info from.
But don't say "The user that installed the license was either myself as admin" again or I'll have to get out my ducktape. You need to find out who installed it so you don't keep going around in circles.

Don't scold. You're dealing with another professional who hasn't the same level or diversity of experience. Nor do I have any areas of support, other than supplier websites or in an advice forum. When you ask a question and I answer it, I am not guessing. I was finally able to delete the License Number object and then the Container object with NWADM32 running on a P90 with Win95. It showed that I was logged in as Admin when I installed it but I was able to delete it/them with my everyday (admin equivalent) account. I was positive that I would have been logged in as Admin when installing a new server as that is the account that is created. I had tried NT4, Win98 and XP machines with NWADMN32, NWADMN95, and NWADMNNT, and ConsoleOne. Your admonishment forced me to try the one Operating system that I hadn't tried and it worked. Thanks and be gentle in the future.
