hello everyone i am trying to get remote access to my home machine which is a w2k3 server that i installed yesterday. From what i saw the security on there is set really high by default by just trying to go to a website so i may need to alter some settings which i guess you guys can let me know :)

so what i am doing is trying to connect to that pc from work. I have a linksys router and have the dmz setting to point to the ip of that pc (not sure if this is correct).

i'm then trying to connect directly to the ip that my isp gives out but for some reason i can't connect through remote desktop to it.

do i have the right setup? i enabled remote connections to that pc btw...thanks for any help .

On your linksys you need to direcct any traffic from 3389 to the local IP of your server.

Check out dyndns.org too. You will be able to use that to set a friendly name for your home pc and can use the name rather than the IP which might change. DynDNS utilities will keep your DNS entry up to date.

That is what I do, same setup as you have described.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

hey mark where do you do that port forwarding in terms of menu in the router. I have a WRT54G it's the g wireless router. thanks.

i found the port forwarding page, put remote access in application menu, 3389 to 3389 in the start and end boxes, both for protocol, ip address of the pc i want to reach and enabled checked...still no luck :(
