I have been think about backing up my Windows updates if it is possible and transfering them to my other computer so i don't have to download them again through dial-up.. Is this possibel for AntiVirus updates too? I use PC-Cillin AntiVirus.

Thanks,

KMartin.

For Hotfixes, right-lick my Computer, Properties, Automatic Updates, and check the first radio button choice to notify but not download, and notify again prior to installation.

When a notification occurs, select Details, and write down the KBxxxxxx for the Hotfix.

Then head to the Windows Update Catalogue, an option on the left of the usual Windows Update site, or use the direct corporate download site:
Download the Hotfixes to a folder.

Notes:

. It is certainly true that not all Hotfixes are applied universally; some are software and hardware dependent. You should regularly scan the Windows Update site from the machine receiving copies of downloaded Hotfixes;

. Your existing Hotfixes cannot be copied and transferred. You can only do something ahead of the game.

. For new installations, there are some timesavers using the 'Rollup packages':

And the nearly free Security CD:
. To simplify or batch the Hotfixes, use the free MS utilities hfdeploy and qfcheck:

Your best bet is to start with the base package of rollups and the Security CD, and follow as standard practice a full download of each new Hotfix or Service Pack.

Sorry, I also left out MediaPlayer in the same folder.
F:\Content\fullfixes
MPSetupXP.exe

Ref your av update files. Yes you can copy over update files and update the software, but strictly speaking you need a license for the second copy. Oddly enough, if you search through Trends own website, you will eventually find instructions to do just that.

Cheers,
Brodie

The Critical Updates are stored temporarily in a folder called WUTemp, then installed from this temporary folder. They are then automatically deleted from the WUTemp folder after the installation has finished.

You can wait until they are downloaded to C:\WUTemp then copy them to another folder before the installation process has finished.
